We sometimes get complains from new customers asking if we can smooth out the top of their new Eldred Wheeler desk, table or writing surface. They complain that we have made the surface to uneven, too bumpy.
Guilty. In fact, we take extra steps and extra time to make sure the surface is as uneven and bumpy as those typical of 18th century American furniture. After a top has been machine-sanded we plane the entire surface, by hand, with a bullnose plane.
Complaints aside, we find it hard to let a machine try to reproduce the quality and authenticity we build into every Eldred Wheeler piece.
